Eddie’s Sweet Shop
Nicole Freezer Rubens, checked Eddie’s Sweet Shop in Forest Hills off her bucket list. Here’s what she says:
Eddie’s is an old fashioned ice cream parlor about to celebrate its 100th year in business. Eddie’s holds the current title of oldest ice cream shop in New York City! Its quaint charm comes naturally as both the interior and the ice cream have not changed much over the last century. I sat at the counter on an original wooden stool at the solid cool white marble counter that was there at the start. The coffee ice cream with chocolate sprinkles I ordered was served in a 100-year-old metal dish!
The Citrano family who has owned Eddie’s since 1968 uses the same recipes as the original owners. The homemade ice cream is churned in the shop’s basement. They make their whipped cream and topping sauces by hand fresh daily. The delicious flavors remain classic and old school, enabling one’s senses to return to the 1920s with every lick. I wonder how many maraschino cherries they go through in a week?
The tomato behind The Three Tomatoes.
Cheryl Benton, aka the “head tomato” is founder and publisher of The Three Tomatoes, a digital lifestyle magazine for “women who aren’t kids”. Having lived and worked for many years in New York City, the land of size zero twenty-somethings, she was truly starting to feel like an invisible woman. She created The Three Tomatoes just for the fun of it as the antidote for invisibility and sent it to 60 friends. Today she has thousands of friends and is chief cheerleader for smart, savvy women who want to live their lives fully at every age and every stage. She is the author of the novel, "Can You See Us Now?" and co-author of a humorous books of quips, "Martini Wisdom." Because she's lived a long time, her full bio won't fit here.
