NYC Life: The Magical Season is Back

As we bid goodbye to the last of autumn, beautifully captured by our roving photographer, the magic of the season returns to NYC. Kick it off in style at our Holiday Party on Dec. 5.  We loved seeing Cher perform at the Macy’s day parade, and she’ll also perform at the Rockefeller tree lighting ceremony on Nov. 29. We have the scoop on this year’s best holiday window displays. And the Bronx Zoo Holiday Lights are back and better than ever. And there’s a wonderful holiday designer sale starting tomorrow.

Join us on Dec. 5 and Bring a Friend

Share the fun. When you buy a ticket at the full price of $55 for this fabulous holiday event, you can get a plus one ticket for a friend for $35. Put on your party clothes and join us at the Scandinavia House in NYC on December 5 for an evening of wine, delicious hors d’oeuvres, holiday shopping from fabulous vendors, music, door prizes (including an island vacation) good cheer, and a few surprises!

The Last Glimpse of Fall

Our roving photographer, Nicole Freezer Rubens writes:

With Thanksgiving in the rear-view mirror and the December holidays just up ahead, I suggest you catch the final glimpse of fall that remains in Central Park.

Happy holiday season to all. During these tumultuous times, it is important to reflect on and appreciate the beauty and the good in the world. Wishing you a peaceful time filled with spirited festivities, love and lots and lots of color!

Bronx Zoo Holiday Lights

During the evenings, the park comes to life with holiday cheer as immersive light displays, custom-designed animal lanterns and animated light shows sparkle across the zoo. This year, you’ll experience NEW lantern displays showcasing the wildlife of New York’s ocean waters and wetlands, plus a new interactive experience celebrating bioluminescent creatures.

Nearly 400 lanterns representing almost 100 animal and plant species will connect you to the real wildlife and wild places that WCS staff works to protect through our field programs around the world, and at our zoos and aquarium in New York. 64 new lanterns representing 9 new animal species will make their debut at this year’s Holiday Lights!

The Magic of the Season is Back

It’s that time of the year when New York City’s holiday windows transform the bustling streets into a magical winter wonderland. Most of the windows have been unveiled. Macy’s celebrates friendship; Bloomingdale’s celebrates the magic of Wonka; Saks has partnered with Dior to create incredible window displays and their most ambitious light show; Bergdorf Goodman’s theme “Isn’t It Brilliant,” is a dazzling display; and Nordstrom’s “Home for the Holiday” theme is featured on every floor. Check out the photos and videos.

Macy’s Celebrates Friendship

“This year’s magical displays celebrate the magic of friendship with our favorite reindeer, Tiptoe, as she enjoys holiday activities with her woodland friends, Polar Bear and Penguin,” Macy’s said in a news release. “Each display showcases a different holiday wonderland featuring whimsical materials and interactive elements…”

Bloomingdale’s Celebrates “Wonka”

This year’s theme celebrates the Best Holiday Ever, and is inspired by the look, feel and magic of ‘Wonka,’” Bloomingdale’s said in a news release. “The wonder of the holidays will come to life with colorful, bright windows full of sparkle and oversized candies and chocolates, inspired by the film.”

Saks Features Dior

Saks and Dior partnered for this year’s campaign, “Dior’s Carousel of Dreams at Saks” — which they’re calling the “most ambitious holiday windows and light show in Saks Fifth Avenue history.”

Nordstrom “Home for the Holiday”

This year the NYC flagship houses 7 floors of uniquely-Nordstrom decor and artisanal gifting pop-ups, with enough twinkling lights to encircle Manhattan nearly 3 times.

Bergdorf Goodman “Isn’t It Brilliant”

This year’s theme, “Isn’t it Brilliant,” is a dazzling display of holiday inspiration. Articulating this year’s theme, the windows are aglow with light, mirrors, chrome, ice, dazzling surfaces, and bright neon.
