SF LIFE: Ain’t Misbehavin, Fleet Week, David Sedaris, Barrymore Wine

Since 1981, Fleet week has grown into one of the most popular annual events in the city, attracting more than one million attendees every year. But don’t let that dissuade you from watching and admiring the air show, grab a bike and head to Crissy Field or Marina Green. It’s not all about the Blue Angels!

On Friday, you can check out the Parade of Ships at 11 a.m. What a sight to behold located at the Festival Center on Marina Green. On Saturday at Duboce Park, K-9 heroes, the four-legged kind, will be demonstrating their urban search and rescue techniques at Bark at the Park. Ship tours are held throughout the week on amphibious carriers, destroyers and cruisers docked at the Embarcadero. You will get a glimpse into the day-to-day lives of sailors serving today.

One more part of this dynamic week is the Veterans’ Art Exhibit at The Cannery, scheduled from October 3 – 26th. This impressive exhibit features works of Artists who have made the choice to serve our country and it will wow you. Grab your wings and take off! www.fleetweeksf.org

Nov. 12. David Sedaris at the San Jose Center

SF LIFE: Ain’t Misbehavin, Fleet Week, David Sedaris, Barrymore Wine

Even if you’ve read all of David Sedaris’ best-selling books, heard every segment he’s performed on This American Life and caught all of his appearances on The Late Show and The Tonight Show, you will be delightfully surprised when he arrives at the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts. It’s an evening of all new readings, a Q&A session and book signing of his latest: a collection of his diaries, entitled Theft By Finding Diaries.

Sedaris is a master of satire and one of the most observant writers addressing the human condition today. He has sold more than seven million books, which include such comedic classics as NakedMe Talk Pretty One Day and Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim. Now “the prime candidate for funniest writer alive” comes to San Jose for a night full of incisive social critiques and his trademark sardonic wit. This special evening takes place on Sunday November 12th – but hurry, hurry, as he is one popular fellow! Get tickets.

Drew Barrymore and Wine

SF LIFE: Ain’t Misbehavin, Fleet Week, David Sedaris, Barrymore Wine

Don’t put down the rose yet friends. You know Indian summer is right around the corner and Drew Barrymore is teaming with Carmel Road Winery in Monterey and they have a rose you must taste. Barrymore Wines is primarily a new line of West Coast pinots but the rose and pinot Grigio are the newest additions to her collection. Barrymore was very involved in the research and Development of Drew’s Blend Pinot Noir and the refreshing Rose and Pinot Grigio are just now hitting the shelves.

Barrymore (yes she is now a Tomato, although it’s hard to believe) has her hand in a million different projects and takes great care with anything involving her name. She studied and learned all about the wine making experience and is quoted as saying making the Drew’s Blend “was a great adventure”.  She learned winemaking in Italy, but chose to get back to her California roots and create her winning and tasty signature wines. She is one hard working woman as she makes beauty products, is an author and a mother and thus she knows how important that end of day glass of wine is to the busiest amongst us. Reasonably priced ($22-$28) online at www.barrymorewines.com
