SF LIFE: Arcade and Holiday Improv
The Emporium opens this month, and no I’m not talking about the long-gone department store, it’s an arcade – for everyone and it’s enormous. For a festive night out to laugh off the calories, head to Bay Area Theatre Sports for holiday themed hysterics.
Emporium
You may not think you want to go to an arcade bar – it’s for the youth, you may say. I beg to differ as recently I ventured into such a venue with husband and son and we had so much fun frittering our money away on basketball, pac man and new games I’ve never heard of. So you will definitely want to hit The Emporium that is having its soft opening this month in the old Harding Theatre space on Divisidero.
Four levels and enough space for private parties up to 900! This old vaudeville era theatre was in disrepair for oh so many years, and is now reinventing itself thanks to two gents with a vision. Live music (of course) and the games, but for those who want something else, there will be movie nights, local art on display and they claim “more, much more”. Great place to go with friends and family this season! www.emporiumsf.com
Giggles at BAT’s Crazy Holiday Shows
Get out the giggles at BAT’S crazy holiday shows. You know I love improv, I guess because I truly love to laugh (the best medicine) and these peeps are so creative. On Fridays, send them your photos and they will make them into a scene. The improvisers may be the people, places or things in the photo. They may talk to the photos or climb into them.
On Saturdays, they have created a new BATS Holiday tradition with none other than a Dickens-themed musical. BATS players will be fully costumed in Victorian regalia. It’s a special treat for those who love “A Christmas Carol”, but wish Dickens would write something brand new each and every week. http://www.improv.org
