SF LIFE: Glamping, Pampering, Waterfront Flicks, Comedy for a Cure
Memorial day is here! Bring out the white clothing and hope for sunshine. And take a moment of silence in honor of those who died in the service of our country. If you are making summer Glamping plans, check out AutoCamp on the Russian River. At the other end of the spectrum, wedding season is here and if you have no time to go out and get photo ready, pampering comes to you with two new apps. Live in or near the East Bay? Waterfront Flicks returns to Jack London Square. Bob Saget of Full House fame comes to our fair city to host an evening of “Cool Comedy – Hot Cuisine” to benefit the Scleroderma Foundation.
AutoCamp – Luxury Airstream Accommodations
Looking for a way to enjoy the great outdoors without sleeping on the ground and finding a nearby tree? AutoCamp is a luxury camping experience in renovated airstream trailers. You get the feel of the great outdoors with the ultramodern convenience of a cozy place to stay. This tomato is not an avid camper, but Glamping totally appeals to me.
Set to open in June in Guerneville, the Santa Barbara-based boutique camping site is bringing 24 custom Airstream travel trailers, 10 fully equipped luxury tents and a Frank Lloyd Wright- inspired pavilion to the beauty of our Russian River area. So cool – walking paths, lounges, campfires and artisanal food and drink (for purchase) are all a part of the experience. Funded on kickstarter, this is sure to be my new favorite getaway. Beauty to You
Lamienne.Com
Hey tomatoes – it’s wedding season and time to call out the troops to help us primp ourselves pretty. I recently used the site LaMienne.com for my daughter’s engagement party. I speak from experience when I say, WOW! On this site you book hair and makeup artists who come to your home to beautify you for any event. SO worth it if time is of the essence and you want to prep and primp completely in the comfort of your own home. Our stylist/make-up artist was fabulous and listened to our needs, making us look perfect for photos. Lots of compliments guaranteed. Mani pedis are offered as well, the whole shebang! If trendy manicures get your fingers tingling and your heart pumping, this app will tickle you pink. You download the app, request an artist (find them on their Instagram or website) a concierge phones to confirm, then sit back and relax while your nails get sparkly, jeweled, or perfectly painted in the manner you request. Tomorrow at the Kate Spade Boutique in Burlingame, 1207 Burlingame Avenue from 12 – 5, they will be previewing their services. I will be in line! Register here to check it out.
Waterfront Flicks and more
I’m sure you have heard of Jack London Square, but have you been there? This summer is the perfect time to visit and check out the outdoor activities they offer. Situated on the Oakland/Alameda estuary, this is quite the vibrant destination. What caught my eye are their outdoor movies and, dancing under the stars – free dance lessons on Fridays. JLS partnered with the Monterey Bay Aquarium to bring free screenings of hit movies this summer. My favorite “The Devil Wears Prada” is showing on June 23rd.
There are delicious dining locations on the water for a pre movie meal, or you can grab a bite to go to eat while watching. BYOBlankets! Go early for trivia, giveaways and a chance to mingle. For more info: www.jacklondonsquare.com
June 7. Cool Comedy Hot Cuisine
Fairmont Hotel, San Francisco
Bob Saget, the funny guy who helped make San Francisco’s Painted Ladies an even bigger tourist attraction, returns to the Bay Area to host an event to raise money for Scleroderma. (This disease strikes mostly women in the prime of life and causes chronic hardening of the skin.) Saget lost his sister to this heart wrenching disease and he has vowed to continue to raise money for research for the rest of his life. True to his word, he brings his unique (sometimes off color!) brand of comedy as the MC for this event.
Fellow comedians Bill Bellamy and George Lopez will provide the laughs to raise your endorphin levels. The Goo Goo Dolls are featured guests along with our own Dick Bright Orchestra to get your toes tapping (worth going to listen and dance to them). The tasty Hot Cuisine will be prepared by Top Chef Masters. Let’s rally tomatoes to stop a disease that affects our “sisters”! For tickets: www.srfcure.org
