June 8. Modern Home Tours
The Silicon Valley Modern Home tour is a chance to get inside the coolest of the cool homes in SV, meet the architects, builders and designers that made it happen. Maybe you can even ask a question or two about your own project playing around in the back of your mind!
Tour day is tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. You simply purchase tickets and then you will receive a map of the homes. You visit them in any order you wish with no one pushing you forward! There are 5 magnificent homes for you to ogle. The company that creates these events in cities all over the country generously partner with a housing or education organization to give back. They are currently working to establish a scholarship fund for aspiring architects and designers. Get the details.
Fashion Store Openings
Oh Tomatoes are you in for a treat. This month a new luxury women’s wear store is opening at Stanford Shopping Center. “Mélange” is a gem of a store with tastefully designed clothing you will want to rush out and purchase. Timeless and made with perfection and attention to detail. Local Mom, Chandan Allen creates each piece and describes the pieces as celebrating womanhood with femininity, fluidity and elegance.
My creations are “designed with the Silicon Valley woman in mind, who juggles between home, family, work, friends, and looks forward to her happy hour” says Chandan. Well that sounds like us tomatoes. This is not a new venture for her as she has previously retailed her brands in South Africa and in numerous boutiques for the past 10 years. A grand opening is happening on June 13th, with models, bubbly and bites. Chandan’s is committed to the community and the evening will bring awareness to The Eastside College Prep in Palo Alto. A portion of purchases will go to support the students. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP. http://www.melangestyle.com
Weddings coming up? Don’t want to wear the same dress twice? (Although, really who cares anyway?) BUT, if you do care, renting is the obvious choice, and now Rent The Runway has opened a brand-new flagship store on Union Square. Um, can you say they have 3,000 items for you to try on and then rent!
So easy, self-service checkout areas and drop-off stations. But my tomato pals, there is much more including: a beauty bar, Juice Beauty skincare products; a complimentary coffee bar, and work and lounge areas. Head there now and rent away. http://www.renttherunway.com
June 8-9. West Coast Craft
No doilies or crocheted t.p. covers at this “craft” fair. This weekend at Fort Mason Center you will find a juried exhibition of artist and designer craftspeople inspired by the mood and aesthetics of the West Coast lifestyle. Cool but sunny, laid back yet innovative, they represent the best of our style.
I personally happen to know there will be jewelry designers there that will tempt you. Check out the earrings at wkndla.com. Unique earrings inspired by nature, movement, history and mythology. There are 275 craftspeople displaying so I can’t mention them all but if home décor is your thing, the clean and sophisticated lines of Amy Hamley’s ceramics will send you for your smelling salts. Amyhamley.com. Cosmetic product lovers will want to head to Aether Beauty – can you say rose quartz crystal gemstone palette? Yes, please. All the info at westcoastcraft.com
June 21-23. Clusterfest
Get ready for the laughs – this is my kind of festival. For Tomatoes who love all things comedy, this three day festival is a laugh riot.
Now in its third year, this epic celebration of comedy and music continues to combine a collection of established and up-and-coming talent performances with immersive fan experiences based on some of the world’s most beloved comedy series – all for a one-of-a-kind, can’t-be-missed event.
Experiences include exploring set re-creations, original props, games and other activities inspired by some of our favorite comedies. Office fans will find delight in the fact that Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is relocating to SF for the weekend. And our old standby Seinfeld’s apartment will be there for you to hang with friends on the couch. SO many laughs, so little time…Amy Poehler, Jonathan Van Ness (Queer Eye fav), and so many other laugh masters from SNL and beyond will be on hand to entertain. www.clusterfest.com
