Magic Theatre in Fort Mason Center presents the world premiere play Grandeur now through June 25th. And no, Magic Theatre is not a place where you can watch magicians perform (my first thought too), rather it is a 50-year-old mainstay in our city. It has a wonderful mission dedicated to cultivating bold new plays, playwrights and audiences. The plays performed here are explosive, entertaining and ask questions about our place in humanity.
The latest production, Grandeur, imagines a meeting between an ambitious young journalist and the shape-shifting music legend, Gil Scoot- Heron. Funny and gut-wrenching at once, questions of legacy, art, hope and redemption are all explored. Every week I discover “new” venues, exciting plays and more and this is no exception. I urge you to head to the marina and Fort Mason Center where the parking is easy and the entertainment sublime. You can always head to Greens – favorite vegetarian restaurant for pre-show dinner.
