Sonnets from Suburbia: Fellow Passengers
Fellow Passengers
Surveying fellow passengers involves
keen eyes and just a little smidge of judgement,
as weary parents pray a toy resolves
a tantrum and their row’s concealed begrudgement..
Those bodies overdue for exercise
with difficulty hoist a bulging bag
into the overhead. The swollen eyes
betray indulgence and the wife will nag.
And me I always check the exits first
while whispering a prayer for our young pilot.
On every flight anticipate the worst
and hate my seatmate’s hair, I wish he’d style it.
Across the aisle with some relief discovered
a nun with rosary, she’s got us covered.
