Style Stories: In the Trenches & Statement Coats
Style Story: In the Trenches
The trench coat has become a staple in every fashionable woman’s wardrobe. It’s the perfect year-round layering piece whether raining or not. I’m wearing my trench, H & M, over some casual separates to elevate my look and tie in the camel and brown tones from my vintage belt, Gucci, animal print pumps, Nine West, and vintage shopper, Louis Vuitton. As you can see, my look is based on solid colour items that really have nothing to do with each other but together make for lack of a better word, a solid statement. I’ve layered a white crew neck t-shirt, Zara, under a black cashmere v-neck cardigan, Laundry, that I’m wearing buttoned up and tucked into a pair of high-waist olive green vintage Army Pants. Between the shapes of the garments and the layering and tucking you’re able to clearly see where each item starts and stops; which is how I’m able to build dimension into a group of solid flat pieces. I’m using the length of the coat to pull all of my different colours together. It frames my garments and directs the eye downward to the print shoes and bag to tie them into my look. From casual separates to sweats, up your game and stay out of the trenches with a timeless trench coat.
Style Story: Statement Coat
A statement coat will take you from drab-to-fab with minimal effort and you’ll feel great wearing it. From, Jacobs Technicolor Dream Coat, to knee-length, Mrs. Robinson, leopard or whatever your taste may be, a statement coat is worth the investment because it’s magic! As a lover of neutrals and picky about prints this leopard coat, J Crew, is a dream! It has the perfect kind of 70s vibe that’s not too throwback retro and makes the kind of bold statement that works for me and my wardrobe. I’m wearing it over a white crew neck t-shirt, Zara, and a pair of baggy vintage, Levi 501s. My lazy casual look was beginning to take form with the addition of a vintage black, Gucci, belt and a pair of black sock loafer boots with a gold bit chain, Shein. I pulled in a thick gold snake chain necklace to work with the heaviness of gold hardware from my belt buckle and boots. A pair of gold hoop earrings, a big black leather bag, Carla Mancini, a pair of gold aviators, Ray-Ban, and, a bad hair day, straight outa the 70s all come together for a cool casual impactful look.
style-tip: invest in a bold statement coat to work with what you have in your wardrobe – that’s what makes it worth the investment
*please treat your wardrobe well. many people worked very hard to get it to you
