Style Stories: Wool and Dopamine

Style Story: Wool Year Round?

Absolutely! Lightweight wool is known for its hydroscopic properties. It’s able to absorb and release water vapor fast so the body stays cool and comfortable no matter the temperature and it keeps its shape. When I was kid, my mom separated my, good clothes, worn only for special occasions and that included the nice black pants. That never really made sense to me because I’ve always been a mix & matcher. I believe all of our clothing shoes and jewelry are meant to be worn often and enjoyed no matter what category they fall into. With that said, I’ve paired my high-waist wide-leg lightweight wool trousers, Marc Jacobs, with a crisp navy/white stripe blouse, Chaps, and my barely there black sandals, Sam Edelman. I’m wearing the blouse for the most part, unbuttoned and I tucked the one front piece for shape.

My haphazard though strategic styling of the blouse reinforces my casual statement. As you can see, the actual garments are flat and one dimensional so I chose accessories that would infuse my look with texture and dimension. The straw crochet bucket hat, Mango, and straw bag, Bohemia Marrakech, are texturally interesting and the right shape to balance with the wide-leg trousers. To amp up the casual, I’ve tightly twisted a regular blue bandana, Amazon, to wear around my neck in addition to my gold link chain and baby pearl necklaces, Gorjana. I urge you not to subdivide your clothing into good or casual rather use it, collectively. You will instantly expand your wardrobe without buying a thing and styling yourself will be easier and a lot more fun.

pro-tip: save some money in the warmer months – check your wardrobe for year ‘round items

Style Story: Dopamine Rush

Are you in need of a dopamine rush? There aren’t enough icy cocktails in the world to keep us cool in this never-ending heat and it’s downright depressing!  As the forever non-lover of allover patterns or bright colors, I must say it’s not awful. I definitely don’t feel like me in – maybe that’s the point. I’m wearing last year’s big Spring/Summer trend, the Tomato Girl dress, Encanto from Etsy, layered over a bright fuchsia tulle pleated skirt, Shein, for a double dose of dopa and to change up last year’s look.

That simple tweak in dimension is consistent with one of the most popular trends for Spring/Summer, the structured bell skirt, and it will continue through Fall/Holiday.  My high gold strappy sandals, Sam Edelman, turn this daytime dress into something special…oh, the power of shoes. I chose to wear these beautiful glass pale turquoise teardrop earrings,Stefanie Wolf Designs. They bring in a natural calming element that gives balance to this very bold look. I feel charged by my dopamine rush but like all other non-prescribed mood enhancers, it’s something I’ll use from time to time

pro-tip: you may be pleasantly surprised when you step out of your comfort zone

*please treat your wardrobe well. many people worked very hard to get it to you
