Style Story: Everything Old is New Again

Style Story: Everything Old is New Again

This was one of many, “evening” dress that I bought decades ago. Today, those dresses have a new lease on life as, day, dresses that I wear casually with flat sandals. My smart stylish parents taught me to invest in classic silhouettes and to take care of them so they’d last forever. Here’s a great example of that lesson with my classic long column silhouette, Moschino.

The blocking placement and alignment are laser perfect to create a great shape on the body and the beautiful movement of the matte jersey fabric really shows off this well designed silhouette. I’ve styled it with a simple pair of orange, Gigi, sandals, Sam Edelman. I’m keeping my jewelry to a minimum and in gold to play off of the colours of my dress with a vintage square link watch, Omega, a vintage gold rope necklace a, Cartier Trinity, bracelet, and a vintage brown/orange, Gucci, handbag.

style-tip: don’t leave your older evening dress hanging in the dark. Take them out and wear them. For those extra fancy ones, check with your trusted tailor for expert advice on how to rework them for day wear.

Style Story: Old World, Modern… is that a thing?

Today, I’m meeting some friends for lunch and a swim so I want to look casual but pulled together. I went with a black and white combo because both together, no matter the garments, always look look elevated. I thought I’d be clever and use my black bikini top, Vitamin A Swim, as a layering piece under a crisp white oversized poplin blouse, H & M, that I’m wearing unbuttoned and tied at the waist. I took the extra few minutes to tie my blouse into a neat square knot and properly folded up and cuffed my sleeves. Trust me, it’s worth it because it’s the tiny details that separate, the girls from the women.

I’ve paired my blouse with a black semi sheer A-line skirt, And Other Stories. I find that A-line and fuller skirts tend to look more upscale and chic rather than a short skirt. Since we’ll be outside, I brought a straw hat, Lanzom Hats, and bag, Bohemia Marrakech, (form and function). And these patent leather and cork sandals, Birkenstock, add the perfect amount of shine to help bump up my look. I’ve kept my jewelry to a minimum with a long and short silver chain and tiny hoops.

style-tip: when we have the essential basics in our closets a, casual, day has more options
