Style Story: To the Max! Blue Snake
Style Story: To the Max!
My flowy maxi dress, Debbie Lisbey, has that cool bohemian 70’s vibe with its vibrant palette and whimsical print. The base colour, Orangeade, is one of Spring 2024s hottest colours. I particularly love the silhouette with its raglan inset billowy sleeves and elastic peasant looking neckline. I really like that the dress cannot be worn off the shoulder – it’s so much more sophisticated and chic that way. As someone who isn’t a huge fan of prints, I must say that this one totally works for me. I love the all over multi coloured giraffes against the hot bright orangeade ground. This is my kind of a Spring, wear-now, dress that will go forward and look even better with a Summer tan and flat sandals.
Today, I’m wearing platforms, Steve Madden, for a bit of an elevated hippie feel. I’ve styled it with a few simple long necklaces similar to the long line of the dress so the eye will keep moving vertically. The great thing about wearing an all over print is that you don’t need to add much to it so all of the fabulous details can be seen without obstruction. This style of maxi has a lot of movement even though it has for the most part a somewhat straight cut that makes it perfect for a short curvy girl like me. I urge you to embrace this kind of look. It’s a great alternative to jeans and shorter day dresses. It’s casual and comfortable but looks incredibly substantial.
style-tip: when you’re shopping for long dresses make sure the style shape and proportion is right for your body type. we’re not going for a tent dress rather a maxi that slightly skims our body with the right amount of movement
Style Story: Blue Snake
I for one seem to style my leopard and snake prints with red tones and I know a lot of you do too. The colour brown is made from red yellow and blue so I thought I’d give some attention to blue and see what comes of it. I know that I love the combination of light blue and brown together so why not style my skirt, Commando, with different shades of blue. I started with my super soft light weight long sleeve sapphire blue cashmere crewneck sweater, Barneys NY. I did the front tuck for shape and used my cornflower blue cardigan, Serra, as a wrap scarf around my neck.
Aside from keeping me warm the cardigan brings in a lighter blue tone and it gives some added dimension and texture to my look against the very flat skirt and top. I brought in a pair of electric blue sling-backs, Sam Edelman, to reenforce my blues. I’m a firm believer that if you’re going to do something don’t dabble, do it. I was really curious to see how all the different blues would hold up with the snake print and I’m happy to say, they do. It’s funny when I’m not used to something I find myself checking the mirror a lot just to catch another look and see how I feel with it. My vintage bag, Gucci, and chunky hoops were just enough in regard to accessories because I didn’t want anything to compete with my, blues test.
style-tip: it’s good to try new things new combos etc… it challenges our styling skills and sharpens our eye
*please treat your wardrobe well. many people worked very hard to get it to you
