Tough Kitty
O when I sing my cats all tend to scatter
no matter if my voice is clear or hoarse.
I always chase them crying, “What’s the matter?”
I feed you, you should be my fans, of course!
But no, contrariness is just their way.
And my way’s to ignore them when they beg
for treats and ins and outs. To them I say
“Tough kitty!” And don’t scratch the sofa’s leg.
For two can play at this game to avoid
if they won’t lend their pointy little ears
while I rehearse. I wonder, what would Freud
advise when I succumb to feline jeers?
Oh I’ll admit the cats have got me cowed.
Perhaps I’ll switch to dogs if I’m allowed.
