Winter Skin Care Roundup

As  temperatures drop across the country and Florida seems like a dream for “only a few,” most women are experiencing uncomfortable dryness to the skin of the face, hands, and feet.  How do we  adapt our daily skincare regimens to fit seasonal challenges?  To answer that question, I have reached out to three skincare specialists who have shared their tips for keeping the skin healthy and moist during the Winter months.  Our experts are Deborah Farkash for NuSkin, and founders Rochelle Weitzner of Pause and Karen Ballou, Immunocologie.

TRANS-EPIDERMAL WATER LOSS -MOISTURIZE MORE!

Winter is a time when trans-epidermal water loss is most noticeable on the skin, says  Karen Ballou, Founder of Immunocologie.  “Indoor heating creates dry air and increases daily water loss in the body and the skin.  In addition, the foods we eat and drink change from season to season, affecting the skin’s microbiome, and the skin can appear dry, dull, sluggish or even inflamed.  The skin regenerates on its own but we find that Winter skin needs an extra push to promote maximum cell regeneration so that it can efficiently absorb the products that hydrate from the outside in.”

You may have found a moisturizer that works just fine in the Spring and Summer but as weather conditions change, so, too, should your skin care routine.  The team at Immunocologie recommend a simple routine that includes a light hydrating Cleansing Lotion along with their proprietary Vital Ionic Mist for toning, providing  an added boost of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to the skin. Finish with an Oxygen Treatment Cream, which comes in the form of a sleeping mask.  Awake refreshed and then apply the Day Protection Moisturizer.  Happy Hydrated Skin!

My  personal favorite is the skin revitalizing Lava Mask, followed by a Face Serum Oil. You can literally see your skin transformed in minutes!  And as a gift to the readers of this article, Karen Ballou is generously offering a 15% product discount through March.  Simply use the code 3T15 at https.www.immunocologie.com

SKIN TIP : PURCHASE A HUMIDIFIER

As an antidote to central heating (and space heaters), consider placing several humidifiers throughout your home. They will help disperse moisture more evenly…your skin will love it and so will your plants!

SKIN TIP :  BEARS AREN’T THE ONLY ONES WHO HIBERNATE

Get into a night-time  routine and sleep more.  Getting a good nights sleep can sometimes be challenging but it will go a long way in decreasing stress levels and by extension, creating a rested appearance that compliments your hydrated skin.

HEAD TO TOE WINTER SKIN CARE:  LIPS, FEET AND BODY

“Compounding the assault of the elements, as we grow older our body’s natural ability to produce natural oils declines”, says NuSkin’s Health and Beauty Ambassador, Deborah Farkash.  Our lips, feet and body are not exempt from this process and deserve extra attention during the Winter months.  Deborah suggests the following:

LIPS: Chapped and crack lips seem to go with the Winter season.  The masks that are part of our repertoire during the Pandemic, and licking the lips as a response to dry or cracked lips creates the perfect storm.  Debra suggests a LIP PLUMPING BALM

filled with hero ingredients to fill up the cracks, build collagen and make your lips feel soft and hydrated.  This is accomplished with its natural ingredients of hyaluronic acid, brighteners, Vit A, C and fatty acids for free radical protection along with naturally occurring retinol.

FEET:  The foot lotions of the Summer are quite lovely but during the Winter your feet need stronger stuff and NuSkin offers what they call a “pedicure in a bottle”.  EPOCH SOLE SOLUTION harnesses the natural benefits of ethnobotanical Crushed Allspice Berry from Central America to tackle persistent dry, rough cracked feet.  The formula with papain from papaya gently exfoliates skin to remove calluses and dry patches, while nourishing ingredients get to the root of the problem and help keep feet soft and smooth. Also great on rough cuticles, dry elbows and scaly knees.

BODY:  Admittedly, a hot bath feels great after a day on the slopes or out in the cold. But the intense heat of a hot shower or bath actually breaks down the lipid  barrier of the skin, which can lead to a loss of moisture.  A thicker moisturizer or even layering moisturizers can make a difference. Deborah recommends  NuSkin’s EPOCH BAOBAB BODY BUTTER, a deliciously rich cream that quenches your skin’s thirst with Shea Butter and the fruit of the African baobab tree.  These time-tested ethnobotanicals promote smooth, supple skin that stays touchable all day along. An additional ingredient of macadamia nut oil further enhances the skin’s resiliency, resulting in  even softer skin the day after.

From now until January 31, 2002 NuSkin is offering any or all of the products mentioned above at a 15% discount. Simply use this link 3T Winter Roundup Discount Offer

SKIN TIP: AVOID WET GLOVES AND SOCKS

Wet socks and gloves can irritate your skin and cause itching, cracking, sores or even a flare up of eczema.  If you are going to be caught in a snowball fight, carry a spare!

SKIN TIP : GIVE YOUR HANDS A HAND

The skin on your hands is thinner than on most parts of the body and has fewer oil glands. This means it is harder to keep your hands moist in cold weather, which can lead to itchiness and cracking.  If you need to wear wool gloves, think of slipping on a thin cotton glove to avoid any irritation the wool may cause.

MENOPAUSAL SKIN CARE FOR ALL SEASONS

Rochelle Weitzner, Founder of PAUSE, remarks, “Pause is more than just skincare.  It’s a movement affirming that beauty gets better with age.  In the U.S. alone, there are 70+ million of us 45 and over ( the average age menopause starts), representing almost a quarter of the country’s population”.  That’s a big number to ignore and I think we all agree that good skin care knows no season and no age boundaries.

While many top brands address the basic precepts of good skin care, Pause has introduced a unique pairing of a Fascia Stimulating Tool with a Collagen Boosting Moisturizer. (On sale right now.) The Fascia stimulating tool is a subdermal solution for loss of tone and texture.  When combined with this deeply hydrating day and night moisturizer, collagen production is stimulated with an emphasis on increasing skin density and improved elasticity. Celebrities and Pause clients alike agree that this combo helps firm, lift, brighten  and even out skin tone, and diminishes the appearance of fine line and wrinkles. We’ll take that!
