NYC Life: We’re in a Holiday Frame of Mind

Bergdorf windows, Photo: Nicole Freezer Rubens

We do love this time of year when NYC shines! Our roving photographer says the renowned creative windows at Bergdorf Goodman are worthy of the crowds swarming to Fifth Avenue to delight in the celebratory spirit. There’s lots of sparkle on Long Island too and our LI reporter has the scoop on the light extravaganzas.  We have some fun holiday event suggestions we think you’ll enjoy, like Elf in concert with the NY Philharmonic, the NYBG Holiday Train show, and Hannukah Family Day at the Jewish Museum.  And we have a recap of our wonderful holiday lunch last week!

Our Holiday Luncheon

Last Friday we celebrated in true Tomato Style at the Three Tomatoes Holiday luncheon, co-hosted by Cheryl Benton, Anne Akers, and Randie Levine Miller. The afternoon was filled with joy, delicious food from Turkish Cuisine, and enchanting music from the Rick Bogart Jazz Trio and our talented Tomato singers. A highlight was Deborah Koenigsberger, Founder & CEO of Hearts of Gold, sharing the inspiring mission of her non-profit dedicated to breaking the cycle of homelessness for single mothers and their children. We are proud to announce Hearts of Gold as the next grantee recipient of our Giving Circle, in partnership with She Angels Foundation. Enjoy photo highlights by Annie Watts and video highlights by Anne Akers. Happy holidays to all! WATCH THE VIDEO RECAP.

Roving at Bergdorf

Our roving photographer, Nicole Freezer Rubens writes:

What a colorful holiday season we are seeing this year! The renowned creative windows at Bergdorf Goodman are worthy of the crowds swarming to Fifth Avenue to delight in the celebratory spirit. In “Toast of the Town” some of New York City’s defining icons are joyfully depicted through the bold spectrum of the rainbow. Models of landmarks including the Public Library, yellow taxi cabs, Bergdorf Goodman in its signature purple, and the many lush parks in leafy green, are presented in miniature signature items and mass amounts of impressive intricate mosaic.

This dazzling installation is intended to be a fantastic hallucination in keeping with the luxury retailer’s overall intended elevated shopping experience. The well done 2013 documentary about the department store peeks behind the scenes, and there is no better time to “Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf’s” than this festive holiday season.
